Dolomite is a double carbonate of calcium and magnesium, commonly represented as CaMg(CO₃)₂. Industrial acceptance is application-specific: the CaO-MgO balance, silica, iron, alumina, loss on ignition, moisture and particle-size distribution can influence melting, fluxing, firing, blending and handling behaviour.

Dolomite is a calcium-magnesium carbonate mineral commonly represented as CaMg(CO3)2. Industrial grades are selected according to chemistry, impurities, processing condition, particle size and the intended application.
Limestone is predominantly calcium carbonate, while dolomite contains significant magnesium carbonate together with calcium carbonate. They are not automatically interchangeable because the calcium-magnesium balance can change process, formulation and finished-product behaviour.
Buyers commonly review CaO and MgO or carbonate basis, SiO2, Fe2O3, Al2O3, loss on ignition, moisture and particle-size distribution. The relevant test method and processing condition should also be stated.

Selected dolomitic material may be considered for approved agricultural and soil programmes requiring calcium and magnesium. Suitability and application rate must be determined from soil analysis by the buyer’s qualified agronomist or soil specialist.
